They would beat and torture prisoners every night
It was August 2022. Taliban dragged me out of my car in Sarband area, they brought me to a checkpoint, then blindfolded me, picked me up in a car and after a two-hour drive took me out of the car. As they were driving around, they took me out of the car three times and were firing shots to both sides of me to scare me and were telling me to confess. I told them that I am a regular shopkeeper and you can search my car.
They took me to a place where there were around 20 other prisoners. This prison was located in a remote area of Kandahar province and belonged to a cleric. The prisoners were tortured a lot, they were taking prisoners out at one or two AM in the night and beating and torturing them. My body still has signs of torture.
My brother found me after 15 days and released me from the prison.
But this was not my last time in the Taliban prison, the second time I was arrested in the outskirts of Kandahar city and transferred to a Taliban police station. I was beaten up here again and was then sent to the police directorate. A group of guards took over every night, and they were beating and torturing prisoners after two o'clock at night.
We used to plead to the Maulvi, the head of the jail, to send us to Kandahar General Prison, because we had heard that the prisoners were given good food there and we were not given proper food here, sometimes we felt like we might die of hunger.
After eight days of beating and torture, it was proved to them that I am innocent and they released me from the prison.
Due to the tortures and sleep deprivation, my mental balance has deteriorated and I still have physical pain.
